Intentional Creativity Philosophy
Intentional Creativity lives near the intersection of expressive art, myth-making, inquiry, manifesting and self-healing. No art training or experience is required. We paint for “process”, not “product”. You might end up with a painting that you like, and the step-by-step process is designed to help you with this.
Intentional Creativity often works with feminine images “sourced from within”. That is to say, we don’t look at an external object or scene and try to paint it. Instead, we connect with our sub-conscious minds and souls to bring out images from our own interior. It is an intuitive way of painting.
Intentional Creativity provides access to inner worlds that may otherwise go unnoticed. There may be stories running our lives that need to be excavated, examined and re-written. Using the physical medium of paint on canvas or paper, combined with written words, ritual, meditation and journaling can assist with transforming these stories and moving a step closer to authoring our own lives.

My Connection to the Intentional Creativity Lineage
I grew up in Prince George's County, Maryland, a short distance from the Intentional Creativity Lineage founders, Lenore Thomas Straus and Sue Hoya Sellars, completely oblivious to their existence. This connection feels special to me and I hope to return to my 'homeland' to offer a class at the Greenbelt Museum in Maryland, where Lenore's, Sue's and Shiloh's works are displayed.
I wanted to go to art school after high school and considered the Corcoran School of Art (where Sue studied), but bailed out for an accounting degree, due to lack of confidence. I studied art history in college and traveled to Italy to see the works of the (male) masters up close.
For many years after, the artist identity was suppressed until I attended the Barbara Brennan School of Healing. There I was encouraged to create and express and show off my creations at the annual creative arts show each spring. My first-year project, a giant eye mosaic made from photos of that year, was included in the school's newsletter.
Thrilled by the recognition, I was inspired to continue my own rudimentary style of intuitive expressive painting and even taught a few classes I called "Your Soul Wants to Paint". I gave my students energy healings when they got triggered or hit a block while painting.

Later, I painted with Steward Cubley's 'The Painting Experience', which was perfectly unstructured for me at the time.
I found Shiloh Sophia on Easter Sunday 2016 and felt like I had found my artistic home. I took several classes with her and marveled at the transformative experiences and my improving skill. I travelled to Maryland later that year and made a pilgrimage to Greenbelt. In a small museum room that was closed for renovations, I saw a Home Depot bucket saying “Let’s Do This”. I knew that I needed to enroll in the teacher training program for Intentional Creativity. I am hooked for life on this beautiful process for accessing unconscious material within and transforming the stories we tell ourselves, while creating astounding, original works of art. |
